Obituary: Lieutenant Edward Allen (October 12, 1930 – March 29, 2024)

With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Lieutenant Edward Allen, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and esteemed member of the community. Edward peacefully departed this life on March 29, 2024, surrounded by his adoring family. His departure leaves a void that will be deeply felt by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Born on October 12, 1930, Edward's life was a testament to hard work, devotion, and an unwavering commitment to his family, his faith, and his duty. Proud of his Scottish heritage, Edward embraced life with a sense of humor and an indomitable spirit that touched the lives of all who crossed his path.

Edward served his country with honor and distinction, not only as a dedicated member of the New York Police Department but also as a proud member of the United States Army.

Within the New York Police Department, Edward rose to the rank of Lieutenant in the Emergency Service Unit, where his sharpshooting skills and unwavering sense of duty earned him the respect and admiration of his colleagues and the community he served.

Beyond his distinguished career in law enforcement, Edward was a dedicated private investigator, known for his keen intellect and steadfast determination in seeking justice. He approached every challenge with integrity and compassion, leaving an enduring legacy of service and honor.

Edward's greatest pride was his family. He shared 64 years of unwavering love and devotion with his beloved wife, Patricia, whom he cared for with tenderness and grace until her passing. He leaves behind a loving legacy through his children: Edward III., Leslie, Matthew, Mitzi, Liz, Mary, and the late Patricia.

In addition to his professional and familial commitments, Edward was deeply involved in his community and his faith. He was a Eucharistic minister at St. Gerard RC Majella, where he found solace and strength in his faith community. Edward was also an active member of the Knights of Columbus and served as a troop leader for the Boy Scouts, instilling values of service and leadership in generations of young men.

"Edward was an active and dedicated member of the Moose Lodge for many years, where he contributed his time and efforts wholeheartedly. His commitment was exemplified by his attainment of the esteemed yellow jacket, a testament to his dedication and leadership within the organization.

Edward's infectious sense of humor and unwavering optimism brightened even the darkest of days. He had a habit of exclaiming "Hallelujah!" whenever something good happened, a testament to his enduring spirit and gratitude for life's blessings.

A funeral mass will be held to celebrate Edward's life and legacy at St. Gerard RC Majella on Friday, April 12, 2024. His memory will forever be cherished by his children, 23 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild.

"With heavy hearts, we also share that Edward will be laid to rest alongside his beloved wife, Patricia, at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. Their enduring bond, a testament to love that transcends earthly bounds, will continue to serve as a beacon of inspiration to all who visit their final resting place. Together in eternity, their legacy of devotion and companionship will live on, eternally cherished by their family and all who were touched by their remarkable love story."

Though Edward may no longer walk among us, his spirit will continue to inspire and guide us. His memory will forever be a blessing, and his legacy of love, honor, and service will endure for generations to come.
