Gloria Buettner-Lancaster

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Gloria Buettner-Lancaster, of South Setauket, New York, on April 7th. Born in Northampton, Massachusetts, Gloria was the daughter of the late Lillian and Felix Caligaris. She was raised in the Inwood section of Manhattan but spent many happy days with family in Northampton, particularly with her cousins Alvin and Emery, who were like her brothers, and who pre-deceased her. 

Gloria married John Buettner in 1949, and they moved to Whitestone, Queens, where they raised their family. She and John worked together at York Ladder, their family's business in Long Island City, Queens. 

They later moved to Port Washington, New York, and then to Jefferson's Ferry in South Setauket, New York, where John pre-deceased her in 2004. Gloria was proud to have served there as President of the Jefferson's Ferry Foundation Board of Trustees.

Gloria was the treasured mother of Kenneth (Roberta) and Kathryn (Steve), the adored grandmother of Jessica (Don) and Daniel, and the loving great-grandmother of Gabriel and Nathan.

At Jefferson's Ferry, Gloria met Jack Lancaster, anther resident there, and they married in 2006. Jack pre-deceased her in 2013. She is survived by her stepdaughters, Judy, Bonnie, Sherry, Kathy & Debbie. 

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at Saint Gerard Majella R.C. Church on Saturday April 20th at 9:30am.
